BBQ Cook-Off & Contest Setup
Fairgrounds, The 1st Annual Garfield County Fair BBQ Cook-Off comes to us this year with $5,000 in cash prizes. Prizes will be awarded in four different categories: brisket, ribs, chicken and pork. The deadline for applications is July 11, 2008. For more information contact Greg Little at (970) 379-1548.

Old fashioned “family day” at the Fair. Free Entertainment: face painting, tattoo artist, stilt walker, games for the Kids. Top off the afternoon with a the free Encana old-fashioned Ice Cream Social and a visit to the carnival.

Nothing says old-time fair more than free ice cream on a hot August afternoon! Everyone in the county is invited to a community ice cream social, hosted by EnCana Oil & Gas, (USA), Inc. There will be entertainment as well, and all is free to the public. This year’s social will honor some important dignitaries. They are respected humanitarians in the community, otherwise known as 4-H/FFA group leaders. EnCana will recognize outstanding leadership qualities of these volunteers, as well as 4-H youth leaders appointed to the 4-H leadership council. EnCana’s community investment program partners with selected community service organizations to provide opportunities for successful initiatives, and has a history of providing support to the Garfield County Fair.

This great event features so many talented team ropers we couldn’t fit it into the CPRA Rodeo program! Come and enjoy the fast action and tremendous talent of dozens of teams.

Colorado wines and micro-brews from all over the state. From very sweet to dry wines and divers beers. Something for everyone-experience wines and microbrews from our own backyard. Mountain Man fruits and nuts samples/sales available. Coupons for discounted wine & beer at Choice Liquor for fair week. Must be 21.

Place entries in box by announcer’s booth - entry time closes at 5 pm. Livestock Showmanship for those not old enough to show (ages 3 - 7) at the 4-H level, or for those adults (19 & over) who just love to show! Now everyone can join in the fun of livestock showmanship. These two events are tailored for the crowd that is either too young or too old to show with the 4-H or FFA Organizations. Kids 7 and younger can get a friend’s or sibling’s animal to show in the PeeWee Classic. Animals must already be registered to show in regular competition. In the Senior Classic, adults 19 and older have had a blast in recent years, showing their animals with their own flair and style. Throw out most of the rules and come join us for a full-filled event sure to make your sides ache with laughter! Sign up to participate if you dare! Entry fees: $5.00 Pee Wee, $20.00 Senior.

In keeping with this year’s Fair theme “Yesterday’s Memories and Tomorrows Dreams” We are pleased to present the 1st annual Garfield County Fair Car Show, Saturday August 9 at 11:30 immediately following the parade. The car show is open to all who love their automobiles, from the classic restoration and the 60’s muscle car to today’s zoom zooms. We invite all to participate and welcome the youth with their Hi-Tech racers to grandpa with his favorite old sedan. For a $20.00 entry fee participants will receive a grab bag, T-shirt and event pin.
The show is sponsored by Casey Concrete of Rifle, with participant Dash Plaques provided by Rifle CarQuest Auto Parts. Other sponsors of door prizes and giveaways are Alpine Bank, Rifle Napa Auto Parts, Rifle Conoco, Western Slope Trailers, Checker Auto Parts, Red Canyon Auto Body, Big O Tires Glenwood Springs and Piper Auto Sales.
Prizes will be awarded to the top twenty cars, and a Best of Show trophy will be awarded which will be determined by a panel of judges. A People’s choice award trophy will also be given. There will be door prizes and grab bags for the participants. We have some surprises in store for all, so come look, enjoy, but remember “don’t touch”.
